BC Approach to Moratoriums-Classic case Stein Valley

1974 BC government declares 2 yr freeze on development in Stein Valley.

1974-1976 Interdisciplinary Stein Moratorium Research Studies are
launched and completed two years later.

Report concludes resource development uneconomic and can only proceed
with heavy subsidies.( reminds me of all tax subsidies needed to make
mining exploration economic in Ontario).

1987 Provincial Committee recognizes development threatens cultural
values of First Nation and decides no development can proceed in Stein
without consent of First Nation.

1988 Moratorium on Logging in Stein Valley.

1995 Stein becomes a Tribal Park.
