MANILA, Philippines - Filipino and foreign environmental activists and
advocates of indigenous peoples' rights will kick off on Monday a
caravan from Manila to Abra province to mark Earth Day and the 24th
Cordillera Day.

The caravan, dubbed Balik sa Katutubong Binhi, is a vehicle for an
environmental advocacy that supports indigenous peoples' struggle to
save their land and rice, their life and culture from large-scale
mining and other forms of development aggression, organizers said
Sunday.

The caravan will begin at 6 p.m. in front of the National Council of
Churches of the Philippines (NCCP) Building on EDSA, Quezon City.

It is expected to arrive at Licuan-Baay, Abra, on April 22 in time with
the annual Cordillera Day celebration. - GMANews.TV
